Congratulations to Jock Cairns on Being Awarded an MBE
We are thrilled to announce that our founder, Jock Cairns, has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours List for his services to public transport.
Jock’s vision and determination were the driving force behind the creation of the Western Dales Community Bus in 2012, following the withdrawal of council-funded bus services. Under his leadership, and with the support of a dedicated team of volunteers, the organisation has grown steadily—securing grant funding, expanding services, and increasing passenger numbers year on year.
This honour is a fitting recognition of Jock’s tireless work over more than a decade. While he retired at the end of 2024, his legacy continues in the ongoing success of the Western Dales Bus.
